As usual, Alexis Verstraeten and Pauline Montironi will present their collection of stuffed toy chairs at the January 2018 edition of Maison &Objet. The objects feature a variegated bestiary of soft toys, from pink flamingos to camels and from koalas to unicorns, hand-made by experienced artisans with meticulous attention to detail… used to cover a series of vintage chairs from the 1950s/70s picked up in second hand markets. The armchairs, benches and poufs are covered and then distributed in a series of selected international design shops and sold online. The project is based on the idea of reawakening the inner child present in each one of us, by offering a memory of our infancy. Each chair is a unique piece designed to enrich the soft menagerie. Animal designs have always displayed a certain kind of charm in artistic productions too: the illustrious forerunner of the AP collection was a series of one-off seats named “Banquete”, covered in crocodile or shark stuffed toys, created by Fernando and Humberto Campana and shown in the finest international artistic design galleries.
