During the September Fashion Week, Donatella Versace paid her own tribute to brother, Gianni, on the Milan catwalk. “This collection”, she said, “is a tribute to Gianni’s life and work. Tonight, I want to celebrate the man, my brother, and his artistic genius. Gianni was a very special person; he always met life with a smile and celebrated it every day. He lived his life to the full. During his career, he created collections that are still cultural references and inspirations for many. It would be impossible to celebrate his whole world in a single collection and that is why I chose to focus on his beloved prints.” On the catwalk, leopard print chemises with gold baroque friezes; full skirts in different versions, with the classic prints launched by Gianni, and worn under denim jackets; short pleated dresses over leggings with gold baroque frieze designs on white; trousers with precious stone prints together with icons of saints and madonnas, in a triumph of colours and gold; jackets over pop print leggings; body-con dresses with the historic Warhol print and Vogue covers on bright green yellow fluo backgrounds. A firework display of classic brand designs and loud colours, that brought back the full originality and vitality of the poetry that was Gianni, matchless in his celebration of female loveliness. The Tribute collection also includes a range of tees with Warhol and Medusa prints on a leopard skin background.
