Antonio Marras has dedicated its winter 2017/18 collection to Eva Mameli, the very first woman to teach botany at the University of Pavia at the tender age of 29 years, wife of agronomist Mario Calvino and mother of Italo, her first son, who was born in Cuba, the couple having moved there after their wedding. Thanks to this special patroness, the collection is inspired by botany. The prints on the fabrics, the elaborate embroideries and the variegated applications on jackets and coats resemble herbaria, in a blaze of foliage and flowers.
The runway also featured some of the designer’s friends, dancing to the rhythm of a joyful march together with the models. Indeed, the generous designer from Sardinia is known for the fact that he does not scrimp on gimmicks to make his clothes look spectacular!
